Dragon’s Dogma 2: Disappointing Anniversary Gift?

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Turns One: A Disappointing Anniversary for Fans

Dragon’s Dogma 2, released by Capcom on March 22nd of last year, has just celebrated its first anniversary. However, the celebration, or lack thereof, has left many fans feeling disappointed. Despite critical acclaim and a promising launch, the game’s future seems uncertain.

Capcom’s simple anniversary “celebration,” consisting of a PNG image, has sparked widespread criticism. Many players feel the game has been abandoned.

The initial months after Dragon’s Dogma 2’s release were plagued by performance issues related to CPU usage. The departure of Hideaki Itsuno shortly after launch further dampened enthusiasm, and the delayed fix for the CPU problem only added to the frustration. As the game reached its first anniversary, fans eagerly anticipated new announcements, but Capcom only released a simple image of game characters.

This minimal acknowledgement has been met with backlash from players. Many expressed disappointment and voiced concerns that the game is “dead,” while others eagerly awaited news of future content.

While a patch addressing CPU issues was released, performance problems persist for some players. One player reported playing the game at 40 FPS with an RTX 4060 on Steam, even with DLSS disabled. This performance bottleneck has been a consistent issue since launch, and the official fix has not resolved it for everyone.

Furthermore, many players were hoping for an expansion pack to introduce new enemy types and provide more reasons to explore the world of Dragon’s Dogma 2. Unfortunately, no such content has been announced, and there are no rumors suggesting that it is in development.

Despite its engaging gameplay loop, emergent moments, and satisfying combat system, Dragon’s Dogma 2’s issues remain unresolved, and its future is unclear. The game achieved impressive sales figures, selling 2 million copies in its first two weeks and 3 million in its first month. These numbers suggested that a sequel or expansion packs were possibilities.

As it stands, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has made little progress since its initial release, and there are no official announcements or rumors about future DLC. What are your thoughts on Dragon’s Dogma 2? Share your opinions in the comments below.
