ZA/UM, the Studio Behind Disco Elysium, Announces New RPG “Project C4”: A Spy Thriller
The creators of Disco Elysium, ZA/UM, have been working on localizing and porting their hit game to different platforms. But now, they’ve revealed their next big project: a new role-playing game (RPG) called “Project C4.” We got an exclusive first look, and we’re excited to share the details with you.
# From Disco Elysium to Espionage: What is Project C4?
ZA/UM draws inspiration from literary giants like John Le Carre, Ursula K. Le Guin, and Stanislaw Lem for Project C4. The developers stress that this isn’t Disco Elysium 2. It’s a completely new experience with a different story. They also want to change the way we see failure in games. In Project C4, making mistakes will be part of the fun, because, as they put it, “No one makes more mistakes than spies.”
The central theme of Project C4 is espionage. Expect plenty of spying, intelligence gathering, and using that intel to navigate a complex plot. You’ll play as an “Operant,” caught in a web of intrigue and betrayal. While the game revolves around spies and treachery, the developers emphasize that it won’t be a James Bond-style adventure.
# Undercover and Under Pressure: What to Expect
The best spies are the unknown ones, right? In Project C4, your character won’t seek fame but will be driven by the love of the job. Expect introspection, character-driven dialogue, and dangerous situations where luck might be your only ally. Just like in Disco Elysium, your choices will matter, even more so this time. As an Operant, your identity is constantly at risk, making every decision critical.
ZA/UM has been expanding its team for the past five years to work on this new project. While they haven’t announced a release date for Project C4, Disco Elysium proved their ability to craft compelling, story-rich games, making this a highly anticipated title.
Project C4 promises a spy story filled with sacrifice and intrigue.
