EA Chooses Mass Effect

Former BioWare Writer Reveals EA’s Mass Effect Preference Over Dragon Age

David Gaider, a former lead writer at BioWare, has made revealing statements about how EA prioritized Mass Effect over the Dragon Age series. In a blog post, Gaider explained that Dragon Age consistently faced potential cancellation after each game release due to the commercial success of Mass Effect.

He stated that EA never saw Dragon Age as a safe investment, while Mass Effect always received more resources and support.

# Mass Effect’s Success Overshadowed Dragon Age

Gaider mentioned that cancellation rumors surrounded Dragon Age after each release, starting with Dragon Age: Origins in 2009. He highlighted the uncertainty within the team, especially after Dragon Age II, and the lack of faith from management. According to Gaider, the Dragon Age team’s hard work was often overlooked, and enthusiasm for the project was constantly limited.

However, Mass Effect, especially after the success of Mass Effect 2, became a safe bet in EA’s eyes. Gaider noted that the Mass Effect team received more staff, a larger marketing budget, and broader support, while Dragon Age was deprived of these advantages. Even during Dragon Age: Inquisition’s uncertain development, new projects were already underway for Mass Effect.

# Dragon Age’s Survival Thanks to Dedicated Fans

Gaider emphasized that the Dragon Age series survived thanks to the strong support of its fanbase. He claimed that without the loyalty of the series’ fans, it would have been impossible for three games to be released. The lack of official information regarding the development of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is raising concerns among players, and Gaider’s statements have brought this issue back into the spotlight.

BioWare has not released an official response to the claims. However, David Gaider’s contributions to the series and his familiarity with the company’s internal dynamics make his statements a valuable source of information. The constant prioritization of Mass Effect over Dragon Age continues to spark debate among RPG enthusiasts. The reception of Dreadwolf in the future is highly anticipated.
