Warhammer 40K: Darktide’s Redemption Story and New Nightmares and Visions Update
While some game studios get overlooked, Fatshark, known for Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide and its sequel Vermintide 2, deserves recognition. Vermintide 2 became a great example of a live service game with continuous free updates and new game modes, avoiding paywalls. Fatshark aimed to replicate this success with Warhammer 40K: Darktide, released on November 30, 2022. However, the launch wasn’t smooth. But Fatshark’s dedication to improving the game is commendable.
Darktide’s initial reception wasn’t as strong as Vermintide 2’s due to significant performance issues. Players struggled to enjoy the hack-and-slash gameplay. Fortunately, those performance problems are largely resolved, and the game receives regular updates. Even Vermintide 2 remains active, seven years after its release, with a recent PvP update.
# Free Nightmares and Visions Update for Warhammer 40K: Darktide
If you’re playing Warhammer 40K: Darktide, the new “Nightmares and Visions” free update might interest you. Fatshark released this update, describing it as “one of our favourite moments of the year: releasing an update for Warhammer 40,000 Darktide!” It introduces a new in-game challenge called “Mortis Trials” and a special “A Day At The Theatre!” event.
The update also expands the Havoc game mode with new scenarios and includes quality-of-life improvements. These adjustments tweak the overall difficulty and modify enemy units and horde behavior. On the technical side, Darktide now supports DLSS 4, offering a new resolution scaling technology for players using NVIDIA RTX 50 and 40 series graphics cards. Full patch notes are available on Steam.
This new content adds a layer of depth for veteran players who’ve already explored the “endgame.” For newcomers, it extends the journey to reach that point. This first-person co-op hack-and-slash game continues to evolve with updates.
# Darktide Overcomes a Rough Start
Despite the initial challenges, Warhammer 40K: Darktide is making a strong comeback. Fatshark is dedicated to fixing issues and adding content. They proved their ability with Vermintide 2, and Darktide is following a similar path. The game has recently reached over 11,000 concurrent players. (SteamDB)
Warhammer 40K: Darktide was even nominated for the “Better With Friends” award at the Steam Awards in 2023, though Lethal Company ultimately won. Have you played Vermintide or Darktide? Share your thoughts in the comments!
