Excitement has been building for CD Projekt RED’s next Witcher installment, but recent news suggests fans will have to wait longer than anticipated. Initial speculation pointed towards a possible 2026 release, but the Polish company has tempered expectations during their 2024 financial earnings call.
The Witcher 4 is Unlikely to Launch Before 2027
In a call with investors and executives, CD Projekt RED addressed the release timeframe for The Witcher 4 for the first time. While discussing financial targets, the company stated they are “still moving towards this financial goal, even though we don’t plan to release Witcher 4 by the end of 2026.” No specific date beyond 2026 has been given.
Piotr Nielubowicz, CD Projekt RED’s Chief Financial Officer, clarified further, stating, “We will not be announcing a specific release date for the game yet.” He continued, “The only thing we can share with you now, to provide some visibility for our investors, is that the game will not be released within the first target period for the incentive program, which ends on December 31st, 2026.”
While a 2026 release date seemed optimistic from the start, the prolonged wait is still significant. However, development appears to be progressing. In November 2024, CDPR announced that The Witcher 4 had entered full production. This suggests the game is moving towards the more accelerated phases of development.
The new game, which aims to take the series to the next level with new regions and monsters, was surprisingly revealed at The Game Awards last year. The developers have also recently shared details about Ciri’s combat abilities, hinting at her role in the game.
The future of the video game industry, which has been booming since 2023, looks bright for 2027 and beyond.
