Hazelight Studios Teases New Game After ‘Split Fiction’ Success

Hazelight Studios, known for its innovative co-op games, is already working on its next project after the massive success of ‘Split Fiction.’ Released in March 2025, ‘Split Fiction’ quickly became a critical and commercial hit, selling over 1 million copies within 48 hours and breaking simultaneous player records on Steam for an EA-published title.

Studio founder Josef Fares has confirmed that Hazelight enjoys complete creative freedom, with no interference from publisher Electronic Arts (EA).

‘Split Fiction’ Sequel or a New Adventure?

Fares revealed on the Friends Per Second podcast that ‘Split Fiction’ is, in his opinion, their best game yet, but he’s incredibly excited about what’s next. “We’re not stressing about how we’ll surpass ‘Split Fiction.’ Just wait and see our next game,” he stated, highlighting the studio’s confidence.

While details about the new game are scarce, Hazelight Studios is expected to deliver another groundbreaking co-op experience, building upon the foundations of their previous titles. Given the studio’s typical 3-4 year development cycle, fans can likely expect the new game to launch around 2028 or 2029.

Hazelight’s Unique Relationship with EA

Despite EA publishing all of Hazelight’s games, Josef Fares insists on the studio’s complete independence in project decisions. “We don’t pitch our games to EA; we tell them what we’re going to do. We don’t let them interfere in any way,” Fares clarified. While acknowledging that EA has faced collaboration issues with other studios, he emphasized that Hazelight’s relationship remains free of such problems.

‘Split Fiction,’ playable exclusively in co-op, has been praised for its compelling narrative, memorable characters, and innovative gameplay mechanics. The game’s Friend’s Pass system allows players to share the experience with friends, a feature that, as with Hazelight’s previous games, makes ‘Split Fiction’ even more accessible.

Hazelight Studios seems poised to take their success with ‘Split Fiction’ even further. Though specifics about their upcoming project remain under wraps, the studio’s independent spirit and commitment to innovative gameplay ensure that expectations are high.
