Rainbow Six Siege: Free Access & New Update Details

Rainbow Six Siege Goes Free-to-Play: What You Need to Know

Ubisoft recently announced that Rainbow Six Siege X will be free-to-play starting June 10th. Originally released in 2015, the game has maintained popularity over the years. Having previously dropped “Tom Clancy’s” from its name, the game is now celebrating its 10th anniversary with a major update making it free to play, but with a “premium” system similar to other games. Here’s everything you need to know:

# When is Rainbow Six Siege X Free-to-Play Launching?

Rainbow Six Siege X launches as a free-to-play game on June 10, 2025. All players can download and start playing without any initial payment. However, a premium upgrade will be required to participate in ranked matches or “Siege Cup” tournaments. This upgrade will be paid.

# Free vs. Premium: What’s the Difference?

The free-to-play version grants access to modes like Dual Front, unranked matches, and quick play. You can also unlock 26 different operators as you progress. Upgrading to a premium version unlocks more operators and allows access to Siege Cup and ranked game modes. To enter Siege Cup, players will need to reach level 50.

# Existing Owners Get Premium Access

If you purchased the game before June 10, 2025, you will not experience any content restrictions after Rainbow Six Siege X becomes free-to-play. All previously unlocked content, operators, and progress will be transferred to the new version. You’ll also receive veteran rewards based on your year of purchase.

# New “Dual Front” Game Mode Adds a Twist

A new, exciting 6v6 game mode called Dual Front is coming to Rainbow Six Siege. Similar to a mode seen in Ubisoft’s XDefiant, this allows both teams to use attack and defense operators together. Teams will try to capture three zones from the opponent while simultaneously defending their own. This is a permanent game mode, not a limited-time event.

While the main objective is zone capture, random objectives will appear during matches, requiring good coordination to take advantage of the benefits they offer. Ubisoft states that defenders and attackers will be able to use their unique skills in “unprecedented ways” in this game mode.

# Visual Enhancements with Rainbow Six Siege X

Rainbow Six Siege is also getting visual upgrades with the new release. New lighting, improved shadows, and 4K textures will be applied to classic maps. Initially, Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe will receive these enhanced versions, with the remaining maps being updated gradually.
